DRAFT STATISTICS PROCLAMATION PROPOSES COMPREHENSIVE REFORM OF ETHIOPIA'S NATIONAL STATISTICAL SYSTEM

A draft Statistics Proclamation has been introduced to replace the legal framework currently governing the production, management, and dissemination of official statistics in Ethiopia. The proposed legislation would establish a new institutional structure for the national statistical system, expand the range of data sources that may be used for official statistics, introduce detailed rules on confidentiality and data access, and create new obligations for public institutions, businesses, and other data providers.
